2 Corinthians 10: Paul’s Strategy for Combat

Posted on August 16, 2023August 8, 2023

The Word of God is a living book, speaking into every part of life. Everything that we do should be based on the Truth that God presents there: even crafting a blog. Therefore, the Bible should be my guide as I present an overall strategy for Every Thought Captive. The passage that I think best achieves that goal is 2 Corinthians 10, where Paul presents his strategy to combat incorrect doctrine:

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Paul has been writing to the Church in Corinth for the second time. In his first letter, he doesn’t even say he is thanking God for the Corinthian church because of their wickedness. They have allowed false teachers and immorality into their midst and are not concerned! In this second book, Paul admonishes them about the things still missing in their church and defends his ministry.

In 2 Corinthians 10, Paul says that, although they think he is strong in his condemnation of their sin only in his letters, he prays that he will not have to act harshly towards them when he returns. But they should not think him weak! Although he is in this mortal body (walking in the flesh), he is not acting weakly from his sinful desires (walking according to the flesh). Instead, he is strong in the divine weapons that God has given him!

Paul declares that he will besiege those ways of thinking that pit themselves against God and the Truth of His Word. He will strive so that their minds are held captive by Christ Himself. And, when he returns to Corinth after the church submits fully to the leading of the Holy Spirit, they will drive out the false teachers from among the Church. These declarations are not a strategy of weak cowardice—they are a strategy and declaration of war!

It is with this strategy that will guide the posts of this blog: a strategy to combat false teachings with the Truth of Scripture for the edification of the Church. Praying for Healing

Posted on September 13, 2023September 12, 2023

We all want healing. No one desires suffering, discomfort, or illness, nor do we want those around us to suffer. So when believers read what James 5 says about praying and anointing for healing, believers are often confused. Does this passage provide a surefire way to defeat disease? Or is this passage speaking about something else entirely? What does James say about praying for healing?
