Welcome to Every Thought Captive! My name is J.C.; I am a follower of Christ as well as a student of theology. As I grow in my knowledge and love of Jesus, I have found that few things are as damaging to my faith as wrong doctrine. Doctrine is teaching about God, his ways, and his creation. Holding to an erroneous doctrine is often worse than having no doctrinal understanding on a topic because, while Christians think that they are holding to sound, biblical teaching, they are actually holding a position contrary to God’s Word. That is why we must constantly evaluate the messages that we get in sermons, books, social media, and movies to see if they line up with Scripture, following the example of the Church at Berea (Acts 17:11). Without constantly evaluating our ideas through the lens of the 66 books of the Bible, we unknowingly become heretics. Without a clear, biblical strategy, we cannot combat false doctrine and proclaim the truth of Scripture.
In 2 Corinthians 10, Paul presents his strategy to combat incorrect doctrine:
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
2 Corinthians 10: Paul’s Strategy for Combat
This strategy provides a loving, aggressive, biblical method to demolish unbiblical doctrines and fortify sound doctrines based on the solid foundation of Scripture. It is through intentional, systematic implementation of this strategy thatl this blog will seek to Demolish Ungodly Opinions and Capture Minds for Christ. Using 2 Corinthians 10 as a guide, here are the strategies that Every Thought Captive will pursue:

Fight False Doctrine

Proclaim the Truth

Equip Local Churches
These strategies, though biblical, are often difficult to visualize. How will posts on this blog seek to implement these strategies? First, these strategies will be carried out in a Christ-like manner. Believers are often quick to call out perceived false doctrines, even those held by other believers, but do so in strife rather than motivated by love for Christ and his Body. ETC will not hesitate to call out those who are holding false teaching, but will do so in order to bring them to the knowledge of God’s Truth, not to destroy them.
Second, these strategies will be carried out in a biblical manner. While we in the English-speaking world have an embarrassing number and quality of Christian resources at our disposal, the best of these sources equip the Church by showing them biblical arguments through the text of Scripture instead of relying on their own explanation of Scriptural principles. ETC will present biblical arguments rooted in the text of Scripture and show how the very Word of God gives us all that we need for life and godliness.
Finally, these strategies will be carried out in a theological manner. The Bible is its own best interpreter, so ETC will teach doctrine using the whole of Scripture instead of trying to use proof-texts. Far too many heresies and cults have sprung up in Christendom because of the isolation of a single verse or passage of Scripture from the rest of the teaching of the Word of God.
It is in this manner—Christlike, biblical, and theological—that the posts of this blog will employ ETC’s strategy to fight false teaching, proclaim the truth, and equip the Church. If these are your goals as well, please join me on my mission to Demolish Ungodly Opinions, Capture Minds for Christ.
